With the UK going back to normal after lockdowns, many of us are busier than we have ever been. Many of us are finding it hard to find ways to look after ourselves, now that things are returning to normal. In this post, we are going to look at ways to look after yourself when busy.

We are going back to work, the children are returning to school, time to flying by. There are not enough hours in the day, for some good old self-care.

Here are some tips on ways to look after yourself when busy.

  • Stay Hydrate

Make sure that you drink enough water during the day. It is recommended that you drink between 6-8 glasses. You should try to reduce the amount of sugary fizzy drinks. Instead opting for water, sugar-free drinks e.g. tea or coffee, and low-fat milk. There are many benefits to drinking water such as helps to reduce headaches.

  • Mindfulness

There are many ways to look after yourself by being mindfulness.

1. Morning Routine

Think about your morning routine. What time do you get up in the morning? Do you eat breakfast in the morning?
Why not, get up earlier in the morning. Instead of waking up at 7 am, get up at 6 am. This way you have an extra hour to yourself to do something for yourself and no one else. Here are some ways to look after yourself with the extra time in the morning.

  • Meditation – Have you tried meditating at sunrise. There are so many podcasts that you listen to and there are a few meditation podcasts about productivity. It can help to set up your day.
  • Journal – Like meditation, journal is a great way to set up your day.
  • Eating a healthy breakfast
  • Gentle exercise – Have you been thinking about starting the gym? Now with the extra hour in the morning, you can now sign up for the fitness challenge or exercise class.

2. Evening Routine

Just like your morning routine, why not, have an evening routine, too. During this time, you can unwind and get ready to go to bed. There are a few ways to look after yourself after a hard day at work or with the children.

You can incorporate some of your morning routines into your evening routine. Before going to bed, you can meditate. There are so many amazing meditation podcasts to help you sleep, you just need to find one that you like and enjoy listening to. Some more tips for you to include into your evening routine:

  • Have a nice hot bath. You can watch a program on your phone or other devices with a glass (or bottle, depending on the stress of the day) of wine. Make sure to lock the door.
  • Read a book before bed.
  • Reflect on the day. Think about what went well or what could be improved. During this time, you can even write a to-do list for the next day.

 

  • Look After Your Body

Have you been thinking about starting the gym? Or start a new workout? With the extra hour in the morning, why not sign up for the gym or exercise class. Exercise is a great way to look after yourself mentally and physically. It can help with:

  • Boost your energy
  • Help with productivity
  • Improve your sleep quality
  • Looks after your chronic health

If you are someone that doesn’t like exercise or is a beginner to fitness, there are so many different exercises that you can do. You just need to find something that you enjoy doing. You do not need to pay for an expensive gym membership if you don’t want to.

There are so many free resources that you can do. YouTube is a great way to find a wide range of workouts from HIIT to dance workouts. Another way to look after yourself is to work out outside in the fresh air. You can go for a nice walk or start running.

  • Watch what you eat

Let’s start the day, with breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is the meal that breaks the fast that your body has experienced throughout the night. It can help with many things, such as help your concentration and productivity levels.

Try to not eat a breakfast filled with sugary cereals, thinking about healthy fats or fiber products such as porridge.
During the other two meals, try to include fruit and vegetable into them. Don’t continuously go out during your lunch hour or after work for a takeaway, just because it is convenient. If you don’t have the time to cook when you get home. Why not, try meal prep. You can prep several meals in advance and all have to do is to cook one meal per night. You can even prep your lunch meals.
